Getting a new cat

Is always exciting to get a new cat, the meows, the purring everything is great. I made a list of the essentials that a cat need in our home so we have no surprises later.

  1. Litter box: You need to search for the perfect box, we don't want your cat to pee everywhere, luckily we have a bunch of choices. Look for the simple ones, I recomend the litter boxes with a lid, some cats don't like the lid but you always can take it off and problem solved.
Place the box in a corner far away from their food, water and bed.

  1. Scatching posts: The post help us to prevent damage in our funiture. Place it near a sofa or chair and stimulate your cat to use it, you can use catnip, a plant that most cats loves like crazy. This way your cat will pay atention and use its scratching necessity in the correct place.
  1. Toys: Cats play to reforce their hunting instincts, they love to play with almost anything little rubber mouses, papers, balls etc. Just be carefull with the toys and cords you give them bacause they can choke on small objects or they can swallow the cords and have intestinal problems that could end on surgery or even death.
  1. Grooming brushes. Cats spend 10% of their time grooming theirselves, and although they do a good job they get great benefits when we help them with that. For example when we brush our cats we keep their fur healthly and tangle free, also the brushing distribute the natural oil in all the fur giving it a shiny look and the brush remove loose hair.
If you have a short hair cat brush it once or twice a week and if its longhaired brush him
dairy. If yor cat doesn't like to be brush, start little by little and eventually would be a rutin for you both.

  1. Food. Be sure to give enough food. I recomend the canned or dry "Super Premium food" (Pro Plan, Hills, Hallo etc) and read the instruccions to know how much your cat needs according to their weight and age. Don't give them your leftovers, some food that we eat can be dangerous for pets and they can gain weight very quikly and thats not healthy.
  1. Fresh Water: Check the water bowl and wash it dairy and refill it with fresh clean water once or twice a day.
  1. Vaccinations and Desparasitation. Vaccinations are very important for both kittens and adult cats. This involves an initial course and then boosters every year. It is the best way to protect your cat against a whole range of distressing and also fatal diseases, like Feline Paunlekopania are very contagious and we can accidently bring it to our home.

The main diseases that kittens and adult cats are vaccinated against are:

  • Feline Infectious Enteritis (Panleucopania)
  • Cat Flu
  • Feline Chlamydia
  • Feline Leukaemia
  • Rabbies
9. Spay and neuter: Is very importat to spay an neuter your cat so you can prevent cat over-population, cat fights and the popagation of Cat AIDS and Cat Leukemia.

Don't forget to be patience with your cats and give them all the love and care that they need.
